Bannockburn Pinot Noir
The Bannockburn winery is renowned for producing Australian wine of a quality to emulate the great wines of France, in particular top-line Burgundies, and this pinot is no exception. With aromas of dark berry fruits, spice and forrest floor notes, the palate has a savoury element to it, with cherry flavours and spice predominating on the mid-palate, punctuated by lingering tannins, and an earthiness reminiscent of those fine Burgundian wines. This complex and full-bodied pinot would work deliciously well with those sweet and smoky flavours of a barbecue in that classic Southern American style, which is so much on the rise in popularity here; and could be served with chargrilled or roasted asparagus and caramelised Brussels sprouts.
