This lightly wooded chardonnay by D'arenberg out of The McLaren Vale in South Oz has a fresh crisp style with great appeal to savour on its own or as an accompaniment to food. A wonderfully aromatic wine with aromas of white peaches, and honeydew melon, backed up with hints of green apple freshness and a touch of spicy oak, leads to a palate of more stone fruits of nectarines, along with a limy acidity and a lovely custard like mouth feel. The oak is very subtle and provides the texture and a touch of supportive spice. The mid palate continues to develop a slight creaminess, while the finish remains taught, savoury and long. Whether drinking on its own or with a fresh plate of seafood, salad or chicken you can’t go past this little gem.
