McWilliam's Hanwood Estate Merlot

The Hanwood Estate range has been known to always punched above it's weight, and this merlot varietal extends that edict. With aromas of sweet cherry, deep black fruit, and spicy plum blending superbly with subtle violet nuances, hints of vanilla, cassis, and the oak derived characters of cinnamon and mocha, the palate is soft and velvety, with more of those flavours of blackcurrant, blackberry, and ripe plum mingling with vanilla and clove. Further back on the palate are hints of mint with chocolate oak characters, and sweet spices, finishing with soft, supple tannins, which help integrate the wine’s exuberance with poise and balance. Roast chicken with thyme, or a grilled pork chop with Portabello mushrooms would be a sound match for this wine, whilst spicy foods would work against the grape's nuanced flavours.
