Sourced from vineyards around the South Australian Region, this Penfolds Koonunga Hill offering is a light to medium bodied chardonnay with distinctive primary fruit characters, sustained intensity and a subtle underlay of moderate oak. The nose is full of attractive honeydew melon, lemon/citrus, and white peach stone fruit aromas, blended by a lovely array of florals: orange blossom and jasmine. These aromas complement a fresh and lively palate, consisting of more stone fruit flavours, persisting alongside green apple and fresh citrus, with just a splashing of honey suckle. The influence of oak provides an added dimension of complexity to this impressively balanced wine, allowing for a long finish with mineral acid structure, giving great length of flavour. Try this wine with a salad nicoise, or fresh sucked oysters.
