This medium-bodied Y-series merlot from Yalumba is a smooth finishing wine at a very reasonable price. Classic varietal aromas of black and red currants, plums, along with Indian style spices and cracked peppercorn, and hints of violets, black olive, cedar, wild strawberry and vanilla waft out of the glass, while the front palate displays heaps of cherry, mulberry and plum that leads into a soft and velvety mid-palate. Slinky tannins and a bright acidity that give this wine a telling structure will see it match well with lamb chops, a vegetarian korma, or traditional cassoulet.
